SYNOPSIS:

When Suomi Kotabe's father died suddenly and unexpectedly, the then 23 year old became the 46th successor of Kotabe Foundry LTD—an 800 year old smelting operation specializing in the production of Bonsho (multi-ton temple bells) in Japan. This 3-channel video work documents the making of one such bell, from the moment the furnace is lit to the polishing of the bell just before delivery to a nearby temple.
