ITAKO’S TENT (trailer)

SYNOPSIS:

Every October, hundreds of pilgrims travel from all over Japan to visit with Itako—traditionally blind, all-female shamans who communicate with the dead in make-shift tents outside Bodai-ji temple in rural Osorezan. Through improvisational song, she mediates brief conversations between the pilgrim and their deceased ancestors and loved ones within the confines of a make-shift tarpaulin structure—the Itako’s tent.
