SYNOPSIS:

When Suomi Kotabe's father died suddenly and unexpectedly, the then 23 year-old became the 46th successor of Kotabe Foundry LTD—an 800 year-old smelting operation specializing in the production of Bonsho (multi-ton temple bells) in Japan. This 3-channel video work documents the making of one such bell, from the moment the furnace is lit to the polishing of the bell just before delivery to a nearby temple.
